Working for Greatness
I’ll be 60 years old in 14 months. I pondered long on what I would say after that statement. For the first time in my life, I feel a little like time is running out. Running out from what? I want to accomplish great things in the time I have left on this earth. That means helping as many people as I can get a leg up in this world.
I’ve always lived by the concept made famous by Zig Ziglar: “Give enough people what they want and you will receive what you want.” I have found that this does not always mean that you will benefit financially. Sometimes quite the opposite happens, but for me those times seem to be more cherished lately than any financial benefits can reward.
Suzie and I will spend the remaining 25% of our lives helping others as much as we can. We also will be spending a lot more time together. We have placed “us” second to the benefit of our business and our family for over thirty-five years. We are very very lucky to have had the opportunity to serve others with our business. We will remain on that course for the next few years. But the time has come to plan to be great even as we age.
I have spoken to many of you about planning for the last part of our lives. This is difficult for some people, while others just plan to keep right on doing the same things.
Others, still, are actually living their goals out now.
I will leave you with this message: You don’t have to have a great plan to be great, but if you want to be your idea of great, you must at least have a plan.
